Steph Hawk-Thornhaven

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate

Steph Hawk-Thornehaven is a passionate and committed Marriage, Couple & Family Therapist Associate based in Portland, Oregon that serves youth, adults, couples, and families across Oregon and Washington. Steph aims to create a safe, trauma informed, and nurturing space for you to navigate the complexities that life has to offer while coping with broader societal contexts. Steph holds the lens that we are all influenced by the systems swirling around us, from the nuances of our upbringing to the active impact of our support circles, workplaces, and relationships with others (among so many other things). As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Steph has personal as well as professional experience navigating the complexities that being a part of a minority group can include. While our experiences are unique, we can find solace within our shared emotions to find comfort, understanding, and validation.

Steph enjoys bringing creativity into her methods and is excited to collaborate with clients on how we can create therapy to meet your needs. When not doing therapy, Steph enjoys spending time in nature with her wife and their critters, doing art, and finding ways to relax in a world where productivity is highly valued.

Steph's educational background includes a Master's degree from Lewis & Clark Graduate School in Marriage, Couple and Family Therapy and a Bachelor degree in Psychology from Portland State University. Steph's experiences in the mental health field has included working with youth in both a residential setting as well as outpatient services, supporting college students through life transitions in Lewis & Clark's Office of Health Promotion & Wellness, and helping parents and couples find new ways to see themselves and each other. Steph's educational foundation supports her therapeutic practice while holding space for the opportunity to be curious and to not have all the answers - while she has knowledge on the process of therapy, she recognizes that she is not an expert in your emotions or experiences and is excited to get to know you.
