Prescription Medication

FDA approved medication for weight loss such as Wegovy (Semaglutide), Contrave (Buproprion-naltrexone), Plenity, Ozempic (Semaglutide), Mounjaro (Tirzapatide). These medications may be covered by insurance.

Semaglutide

Compounded Semaglutide with B12 is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, also referred to as an incretin mimetic. It works to enhance the growth of beta cells in the pancreas, which are sites of insulin production. This means your body has improved control over blood sugar spikes. Semaglutide delays gastric emptying, which reduces appetite, improves control of eating, and reduces food cravings.

Tirzepatide

In July of 2022, a study was published describing the weight loss benefits of tirzepatide. Participants in the study lost on average over 20% of their body weight. It is currently sold under the brand name Mounjaro. However, branded tirzepatide can be expensive, unavailable, or unable to be covered by insurance. Tirzepatide the active ingredient, is compounded with vitamin B12 at a fraction of the cost and offers the same weight loss benefit.

Naltrexone

Low dose naltrexone works by boosting your natural endorphins. Endorphins are hormones produced by your body to relieve stress and pain. They trigger positive feelings and are thought to be the cause of “runner’s high.” Endorphins also help regulate the immune system, calming it down in autoimmune disorders, and revving it up when needed. In addition to LDN’s effects on endorphins and the immune system, it works to reduce inflammation.

Contrave

Contrave contains a combination of bupropion and naltrexone. Bupropion is an antidepressant medicine that can also decrease appetite. Low dose Naltrexone is usually given curb hunger and food cravings.

Contrave is an anorexiant and is used to help manage weight in obese or overweight adults with weight-related medical problems. This medicine is used together with diet and exercise.
